Domino’s is about to launch its first ‘Sustainable Store’ design. This new store design will showcase our commitment to a sustainable future for the environment in which we operate.
Our passion to do the right thing extends beyond our product innovation and people development; it reaches to the core of what’s important for the future – sustainability and ensuring we take steps now to make a positive difference. We have focused on key areas of the store’s design and operations to ensure our new design sets a positive benchmark.
These include:
Electricity Consumption
We have identified electricity consumption as a substantial contributor to our carbon footprint. As a result, we will implement improvements in the design and equipment use in the store to ensure we significantly reduce our carbon footprint.
Water Consumption
Scarcity of potable water is an important consideration for many parts of the world. Through efficiency and water saving devices the store’s water consumption will be greatly reduced.
Gas Consumption
Our cooking equipment and hot water units in stores use gas to heat. Through the new gas saving modification to our ovens, we expect to see significant reductions.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
Domino’s is committed to waste reduction strategies in store. Our pizza box is also recycled and 100% recyclable, which means it can live again in other recycled products.
Materials and Finishes
We are working with our suppliers of construction materials to ensure they are environmentally responsible. New store materials that have low environmental impacts will be preferred.
Equipment and Lighting
The efficiency of our equipment and lighting in store will go a long way to meeting our sustainability goals. We will continue to work with equipment suppliers to ensure a high operational efficiency life span.
Communicating our sustainability initiatives to our customers will also be a key element of our store design. We are proud of our commitment to setting a benchmark within the Quick Service Restaurant industry and it’s important we take our customers on this journey with us.
Gas Saving Modification
In addition to the sustainability developments in our Sustainable Store design, it’s important we look for ways to make a significant difference across all of our stores.
Our ovens are at the heart of every store and we know making significant improvements to them will help reduce our carbon footprint. Domino’s has embarked on a program to modify existing ovens to reduce their gas consumption without affecting the cooking process. In early stages of testing we have seen a reduction of up to 20% in gas usage.
Over the next six months we will continue to invest in this program as part of our commitment to being more sustainable now and in the future.
We’re on the road to getting there. We hope to achieve our goals by breaking them down into smaller, more achievable tasks. By working away at these smaller tasks, we’ll achieve our final destination sooner.
